To give parents an opportunity to ask questions and receive information about the changes coming to the District’s middle schools in 2008-09, this month's New Haven Community Forum is being integrated into the annual Open House evenings at each middle school. The Forum will come to Alvarado Middle School this Thursday (April 24), from 5:30 to 7 p.m.; and to Cesar Chavez Middle School next Thursday (May 1), also from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Forum met at Barnard-White Middle School last week.
Declining enrollment, a phenomenon throughout Alameda County, is forcing the closure of Barnard-White at the end of the 2007-08 school year, necessitating boundary changes throughout the District. Starting in 2008-09, most students who would have attended Barnard-White will go to Cesar Chavez, and some students who would have attended Chavez will attend Alvarado. In addition, Chavez will move to the Barnard-White campus for 2008-09, so modernization of the Chavez campus can be completed in a single year.
