If you're in the mood for some tasty Indian and Pakistani food but you're not in the mood to be spending some big bucks, you should probably head over to Daa'wat tonight (but not between three and five p.m. because it's closed).
If you're into appetizers, samosas are the way to go at Daa'wat. Personally, I've never been a big fan and was hesitant to try them. I was pleasantly surprised by what I tasted. The potato filling was super tender and slightly spicy, and dipping it in the tangy sauce it came with was a delightful combination.
We ordered sabzi (mixed vegetables) and Daal (stewed lentils) with naan. The sabzi was juicy and flavorful with a ton of different vegetables in it. All the flavors of the different vegetables combined to make something radical.
The daal wasn't nearly as lovely. The grey-poupon colored mush was as unappetizing as it looked. It had far too much curry for my taste, the strong flavor overpowered any other flavors in it. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really love curry, and I mean REALLY love curry.
Fortunately, the naan was quite delicious and went with the sabzi perfectly. It was soft and fluffy and still hot from being baked just moments before arriving at our table. Now that is quality.
Although the stewed lentils might have sucked, the rest of the meal was quite a delight.
The food was filling and flavorful, and fed two hungry people quite well (with leftovers) for under twenty dollars. Right on!
